What? Cup on the top? - Nonsense!
Newest
Versions of Traditional Guns
All our guns use dripless cups
Gravity Guns have a shorter fluid passage so are easier to clean, in addition they have twice the force of gravity helping deliver your paint so they typically spray a little better. However, we have bottom feed guns who cannot get used to the weight of the paint on top of your gun.

 What
other options do I have if I want the cup on the bottom? |
1)
PRESSURE SETUP: Many painters enjoy a pressure setup.
This gives them greater control over how much material they
lay on and is good for woodworkers who experiment with different
and unconventional material. We have several pressure setup
but we like the one that acts like a suction gun to give you
the same bottom feed feel with greater fluid control

Small
Compressor?

If
you have a small compressor (smaller than 5-6 HP and a 40 gallon
tank - less than 11cfm), we have a few recommendations:
NOTE:
For woodworkers, you don't have to match cfm requirments exactly.
Woodworkers do not usually spray continuously and therefore
can get by with 2-3 cfm lower ratings on their compressor. i.e.
a 6.8cfm at 40 can run a 10cfm at 30psi.
Many
professional HVLP guns require around 15cfm. Many wood working
hobbist have small compressors, but don't worry, here are a
few suggestions to help you get by with a 20-30 gallon/5-6HP
compressor.
"8.6 @ 40 and a 20 gallon tank? Unless I were doing production
work I don't feel you need an upgrade. You can spray an Astro
Gun for example, rated at 10cfm at 40psi and it works just fine
to spray four interior six panel doors one right after the other.
By the time the compressor needs to catch up I need to give
my arm a brake anyway. Or I need to refill the cup. Once you
use a professional gun like the Astro, I'm sure you will like
it as much as everyone else."
What
tips should I get?
Recommendations are to be used as a starting
point reference and are not an absolute application for all
refinish material brands. They are not meant to imply that any
given air cap/fluid tip combination can not be used to successfully
spray any given refinish material. Technique and personal preference
must also be considered.
As a general Rule, a 1.4 HVLP can handle
most materials.
If you want a more exact match, Generally, go smaller
for Clears Urathanes (1.3) and larger for base coats and Wood
Waterbornes (1.5&1.6) and larger still for primer surfacers,
lacquers and enamels (1.5-1.8). We recommend the DeVilbiss Guns
because they generally come with multiple tips to handle all
your finer refinishing needs.

How
should the air cap be cleaned?
Remove the air cap from the gun and immerse it in clean solvent.
If necessary, use a bristle brush to clean dried paint. Blow
it dry with compressed air.
If the small holes become clogged, soak the cap in clean solvent.
If reaming the holes is necessary, use a toothpick, a broom
straw, or some other soft implement.
Cleaning holes with a wire, a nail or a similar hard object
could permanently damage the cap by enlarging the jets, resulting
in a defective spray pattern.
