SGW recommends a 1 1/2" HP min compressor for serious work. 2HP is better. Typically, a 110v compressor will limit you to less than 8cfm. Almost every USA gun requires more air. That is why many stores will tell you you need a really big compressor to spray HVLP. Or they will give you the 7cfm hobby guns that are not great and do not last long... or a 4cfm east gun that has a lot of orange peel...
