Air-assisted airless spray guns also known as (airmix) combine the best of 2 worlds the speed and large fan patterns of an airless spray gun and the fine finish of a HVLP and Conventional Compressor Spray Guns. AAA, Air Assisted Airless, or Airmix, uses a two stage process to atomize your fluid. First, the fluid is partially atomized with a fluid nozzle tip similar to a standard airless tip. Second, the partially atomized fluid is further broken up by compressed air from the air cap. The result is a finely atomized spray pattern similar to the Fine Finish HVLP and Conventional spray guns you find at Spraygunworld.com. Newly designed low-pressure units, like the ones featured here i.e. the CAT Cougar have an extremely soft spray and comply with HVLP standards
Air-assisted technology uses a combination of airless and air spray. Fluid pressure ranges from 700 to 900 PSI, with air intermixed at 15 to 30 PSI. The systems typically are found in stationary and portable fine finish production applications.
AAA Differs from Airless in target market. AAA is designed for Fine Finishing AND exterior and interior wall finishing. Airless is meant for only "crude" finishes i.e. home exteriors and parking lots. Airless alone suffers from poor transfer efficiency and is actually dangerous as materials are delivered at such a high velosity that they can easily penetrate the skin. AAA is delivered at low velosity and has a higher transfer efficiency and finish quality. AAA is more expensive however.

SprayGunWorld: Please note AAA airless and Airmix are not "better" wood finishers than the other top, low overspray spray guns we carry - (it may be better than cheap guns you purchase at your do it yourself store, but not the spray guns here). Many intuitively think you get a finer finish due to a much larger price tag. A salesmen might have told you this, but this is NOT true. Instead, what you DO GET for your money is: 1) a hi powered pump for fast fluid extraction - which therefore can be used with a very small compressor because you use an extra pump for fluid extraction and 2) a spray gun system built for speed and a full fan pattern.
